The two biggest factors in oil’s high price are the weakness in the U.S. dollar’s exchange value and the liquidity that the Federal Reserve is pumping out. In an effort to forestall a serious recession and further crises in derivative instruments, the Federal Reserve is pouring out liquidity that is financing speculation in oil futures contracts.

In one of the first reports of its time, Monitor Group, a global business consultancy, conducted a comprehensive study of Sovereign Wealth Funds and found that despite evidence that they buy majority stakes in Western companies more often than expected -- the political danger appears to be small.

Tuesday is the first full day that the state Supreme Court's ruling allowing gay couples to marry takes effect. L.A. County may jump ahead of the line and let one couple unite Monday.
